US Filter “Big Blue” replacement cartridges

We are currently using the model CP5-BB water cartridge and find that we need to replace it every two weeks in order to maintain a minimal water pressure.
I viewed all of the filters that are available for the 4 1/2”x10” “Big Blue” and I was wondering which one might offer us a greater amount of time between changes.
FYI, in addition to the “Big Blue” we also have an ultraviolet water purification system and constantly providing excellent quality and innovation. are therefore not so much concerned about bacteria as much as the silt and sediment problem that we are experiencing. Thank you for your anticipated assistance in this matter.

CP5 series from Pentek has been modified to a newer model. It is now the ECP5-BB filter instead.

Sediment Filter Micron Ratings

subject: A true 1 micron filter.

Comments: I would like to know if a pleated sediment filter is a true one micron filter and is it rated to remove cysts?
I have found that there are great differances in 1 micron filters and am looking for one to
remove sediment as small as 1 micron on initial installation.
Some are only one micron after the filter gets saturated with a given amount of sediment.

It depends what you want removed from the water.
If it’s sediment, it will do. If it’s cysts, it will not.

Pleated Cellulose-Polyester; Polypropylene; etc. are Sediment filters.
For cysts, a carbon type filter is needed.

Culligan Reverse Osmosis

We have a reverse osmosis system under our kitchen sink.

It is called “Culligan Cleer.”

There are three filters.
The model numbers are:

  1. AC-15
  2. AC-15M
  3. AC-15L

Do you have something to replace these Culligan filters?

We would like to replace them ourselves, and thought it would be more economical to buy them online rather than through the Culligan Dealer, or is it so?

Thank you.

When purchasing in bulk, it’s more economical to buy the Culligan Reverse Osmosis filters online. If you need personalized service, your Culligan Man would be the better approach.

Culligan water filtration products reduce the presence of sediment and bad taste and odor.

Some Water Purification products remove or at least reduce the presence of contaminants such as nitrates, mercury, herbicides, pesticides, lead, giardia, cryptosporidium, and asbestos. Please note that not all bad things in the water that can be remove, are actually there before installing the water treatment device. It’s up to you to do a Water Test before spending a fortune on something not needed.

To sum it all up, if you are not sure what is wrong with your water, you may want to try a water test kit. The test kits will tell you which, if any, contaminants are in your water.

Clayish Silt and Iron Filtration

I am on a well that supplies water along with an amount of clayish silt and iron.
I bought a Big Blue 20″ dual filter system some time ago and have been using a S1-20BB 20 micron pleated cellulose in the first position and a CP5-20BB 5 micron pleated cellulose-polyester in the second position.
This does a pretty good job on filtering the silt but after about 4 weeks of use I start getting a rotten egg smell from the faucets and I have to drop the filters and add bleach to the system.
This goes on every 3 to 4 weeks.

Wound Cord Cartridges

In my well house I have a 20″ “Big Blue” filter housing from Ametek.
It takes 4.5 inch diameter, 20 inch cartridges.
My local Culligan dealer sells the 5 micron cartridges to me for $48.00.
It looks like there would be much better prices with non-branded culligan water filters.

Can you tell me what part number I’ll need for replacements?
They have been selling me wound cord cartridges, but in reading online, it looks like the spun polypropylene might be a better way to go.

All help you can give is greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Any 4.5″ x 20″ BB water filter replacement would be good for your system.
I simply have no idea which type of filter you need, and what quality water you have.

Radon Gas Water Purifier

Search Subject: Radon Gas in Well Water
Comments: Looking for a Device that would remove radon gas from water
Reply: with ANY kind of helpful information about this

Activated carbon (AC) filtration or Granular Activate Carbon (GAC) is most effective in reducing and removing organic contaminants from water.

Organic substances are composed of two basic elements, carbon and hydrogen.

Since organic chemicals are often responsible for bad taste, color and odor problems, Activated Carbon filtration can generally be used to improve aesthetically objectional water.

Some Reverse Osmosis Questions

OVERVIEW
We have a new home under construction in the remote mountains of Colorado.
In our new home, our water source will be a well and our sewage will go into a septic system. Our current home has a reverse osmosis unit so we have some knowledge of those devices.

On Wednesday of this coming week the drywall contractor will start closing the walls and ceilings. We will probably want reverse osmosis drinking water to be available at the Kitchen sink and at both sinks in the Master Bath. The Kitchen is directly above the Mechanical Room. The Master Bath is above a storage room.

CuZn Water Filters vs. Carbon Filters

subject: replacement filters for CuZn wh10 Filter
I’m looking for whole-house water filtration that removes primarily chlorine.
Interested in low running costs.
Which is better, CuZn or active carbon?
I understand that active carbon removes chlorine etc whereas CuZn water filters converts it to a different chemical compound. Has there been any scientific tests of the health aspects of these converted compounds?
Have the CuZn filters been FDA approved?

Hello,
The W50PEHDA you mentioned is an American Plumber Sediment Filter, but it’s not 100 micron as you indicated. It’s a Fifty micron sediment removal filter. The equivalent would be the R50-BB which is 155053-51 R50 Big Blue / 4-1/2″ x 9-3/4″ approx. size.

When to replace the Ultra Light bulb

How often should I replace my UV bulb?

That’s a good question. You see, many manufacturers recommend to replace your uv bulb once every 12 months of continuous use. However, it really depends on the condition and specific unit in question.

Although the ultra-violet bulb appears to be in working condition, that is you see it emitting visible light, it still may not be good enough to emit at the required 254nm wavelength; therefore it’s advisable not to rely on a simple visual test.

In addition to the above, you may wish to clean the glass whenever you are replacing the bulb since any blockage might impair the effectiveness of the UV light, resulting in a ultra violet malfunction.

Chlorine Vs. UV Ultraviolet Water Purification

Major soft drinks groups use Ultra Violet disinfection to provide micro-biologically pure water, which helps add shelf life to their products. Soft drinks and bottled water producers build their reputations around the purity of their products, emphasizing the fact that they’re natural.

UV is the only effective method of treating bottled water without compromising marketing assets.

Minute contaminants in rinse water, including microorganisms and total organic compounds (TOC), can adversely affect yields and must be removed by the water purification system. In order to meet these demands, UV technology for disinfection and organics removal is often used in the water treatment scheme.

I have a Spectra 60 Plus RO/DI system and I need replacement cartridges. I can send you a picture of the unit if it will be easier. Thanks in advance for your help!

We might be able to provide the following, but your confirmation is needed.

You probably need:
1 sediment filter
1 carbon block filter
1 50 gpd Thin Film Composite (TFC) RO membrane
2 DI cartridges
1 Carbon inline post filter

However, in order to point to the correct items, the sizing for those is needed.

Reverse Osmosis for Car Wash

Please help me determine whether or not this unit will suit my purpose of washing vehicles.I plan to attatch the unit in my garage at the water source connected to the hose. The hose will be connected to a pressure washer which uses about 2 gallons per mintue.

Will this unit cut it?

Also, can it filter out the sediments to ultimately leave a spot free drying finish?

Please set me up with a proper unit for my application.

A. You want to wash vehicles with reverse osmosis purified water. Hmm… I don’t understand why that’s needed. RO water is usually used for drinking, bathing, or food processing industries. I think vehicles can do without this expensive method.

B. A 50 gpd (gallons per DAY) system, can not be used for a 2 gpm (gallons per MINUTE) source.

There are commercial RO units available that can be used for heavy usage, however those are far more expensive then standard home reverse osmosis units.

CuZn Water Filters

I am looking to buy a whole house filter. There are 3 people in our household. Which CuZn water filter would work best, the WH10 or the WH20?

The CuZn inline filters (WH10 and WH20) can NOT be backwashed, so the media is used up. It will last approx. 1 year sometimes much more, sometimes much less depending on the water being used. We would need a full water analysis in order to provide a precise suggestion. Media replacements can be purchased too.

The difference between the two above mentioned units are only in sizing, that is, the wh10 would hold half the amount the wh20 can hold. In overall, the more media involved, the better the treatment in addition to longevity.

The “how cuzn works” page reefers in particular to the other whole house units, the CuZn single tank system and Cuzn double tank system that would treat up to 500,000 gallons and come with an automatic backwash for optimal performance.

C-WHIL stands for Cuzn Whole House In Line. The WH10 and WH20 were once coded as WHIL-10 , WHIL-20 respectfully. They’re 2 units in total.

All CuZn filters work with the same technology. Though, the words “can be backwashed” apply to the single and double tank series only.
