We’ve all heard about arsenic. It’s a major cause of kidney diseases. Yet, it has been found in 7 brands of bottled water. Guess what? Reverse Osmosis can remove arsenic! And their are many arsenic filters out there to get your water safe. The Safe limit of arsenic in water is 10ppb. Nadiq Water has 52ppb, Nation 20ppb, National 11ppb, Naimat 22ppb, Premier 16ppb, New Everest 31ppb, and Pineo showed 13ppb arsenic. The report showed 21 out of 75 brands of bottled water are unsafe and 59 brands were declared safe.

Chemically safe brands are 62, chemically unsafe brands 13. The number of microbiologically safe brands 72 and microbiologically unsafe brands 3. 75 brands were collected from 14 cities. (TDS) and bacterial contamination were also found. Report by PCRWR, says the consistent brands 50, brands disappeared 27, new brands 25. Drinking water quality is deteriorating all the time due to biological, human, and chemical pollutants. Piped water gets contaminated due to pipes near sewerage lines or open drains and all may cause many serious water borne diseases. 45 percent of infant deaths are attributed to diarrhoea and 60 percent to overall waterborne diseases in Pakistan. 25-30 percent of the diseases is gastrointestinal in nature. Poor quality of drinking water make people buy more bottled water which causes a growth of bottled water industry in the last few years but the industries were found selling contaminated water.

UPDATE: Nitrate Removal from Water

Nitrate Water Filters utilize white bead anion resin to remove nitrates from water. In most cases, it’s practical that the levels of Nitrate should not exceed 10 mg/L. When calculating capacity, to determine which type of Nitrate Water Filters is needed, competing ions should be accounted for.

A Technical Data Sheet

The EPA limit on nitrates in potable water supplies is 10 ppm as N, or 44.3 ppm as NO3, or 35.7 ppm as aCO3.

When operated in the chloride cycle (sodium chloride regeneration), the resin will not exchange for CO2 or silica. Recommended service flow rate is 3 to 5 gpm/cu.ft.

ResinTech SBG2, a Type 2 anion resin, ResinTech SBG1, a Type 1 anion resin, or ResinTech SIR-100, a nitrate selective resin, can be used in the chloride form of nitrate water filters. The resin is regenerated with dilute brine, usually at 10 pounds per cubic foot.

Standard Resins – ResinTech SBG2 and SBG1

Although highly selective for nitrates, ResinTech SBG2 and ResinTech SBG1 are more selective for sulfates than for nitrates. These resins can also exchange chloride for bicarbonates and are routinely used to do this in dealkalizers.

All anions in Nitrate Water Filters are replaced by chlorides.

The effluent sulfates will be very low throughout the run.

Bicarbonates will be exchanged for chlorides in the first part of the run, then pushed off the resin in the latter part of run. Nitrates will be low throughout the run unless the unit is run past its nitrate capacity. In normal drinking water concentrations, sulfate has a higher affinity for the resin than nitrate. Because of this, the sulfate occupies the top portion of the bed, and the nitrate, which has the second highest affinity for the resin, take the next position. On over exhaustion the sulfate will displace the nitrate, so that the nitrate concentration will rise quite sharply to a level IN EXCESS OF THE NITRATE LEVEL IN THE RAW WATER. This phenomena is called dumping.

The pH will be reduced during the first part of the run due to the removal of alkalinity and increased above the influent pH once bicarbonates, (alkalinity) begin to leak. Chlorides will be equal to the sum of SO4, Cl, HCO3 and NO3 during first part of run and equal to SO4, Cl, and NO3 during the latter part of the run.

Since the anion unit is salt regenerated, materials of construction may be the same as for a water softener. Also, since no caustic is used for regeneration, the influent to the unit does not need to be softened.

Nitrate Selective Resin – ResinTech SIR-100

ResinTech SIR-100 has a much lower affinity for sulfate, so much so that it avoids nitrate dumping which can happen when a regular resin such as ResinTech SBG1 or ResinTech SBG2 is run past the exhaustion point.

ResinTech SIR-100 is commonly called a nitrate selective resin. The term nitrate selective resin is actually a misnomer. In fact, all of the commonly referred to nitrate selective resins are non-selective for sulfates and other polyvalent ions. This leaves nitrates as having the greatest affinity for the resin. Sulfate and chlorides have about the same affinity for ResinTech SIR-100.

ResinTech SIR-100 has larger molecular groups at the exchange sites and a greater level of porosity to enhance kinetics. Because of this, it has a lower total capacity than standard resins like ResinTech SBG and ResinTech SBG2.

During service, the nitrate concentration climbs gradually until it reaches the same level as the raw water. Nitrates will not exceed their influent levels. Sulfates, however, break before nitrates and will rise to levels higher than the inlet sulfate levels due to dumping. The sulfate levels can achieve a level equal to the sum of the nitrates and sulfates before coming back to the same level as the sulfate concentration in the raw water. Source: Resin Tech

Note: Nitrate values are usually reported either as the Nitrogen Atom, the Nitrate Ion, or as the Calcium Carbonate equivalent. The calcium carbonate value is the one used for most ion exchange calculations in North America. To convert from values reported as “N” to their calcium carbonate equivalent, multiply by 3.57, i.e. (N X 3.57 = as CaCO3.) Likewise to convert values reported as nitrates (NO3) to CaCO3, multiply by 0.80645, i.e. (NO3 x 0.80645 = as CaCO3. )

While the Whirlpool 149010 Water Filter is well known to remove the bad taste of water, some may notice that there’s no specific reason why one shall stick with the original WHCF-WHWC replacement filter, when this can be substituted with other Whirlpool WHCF-WHWC compatiable water filter catridges.

The Whirlpool reverse osmosis filter would generally meet criteria that’s set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and is therefore completely reliable to ensure that you are getting healthy, clean and unadulterated water because water is an essential of life and to live healthy, one has to ensure that the water is uncontaminated.

Whirlpool WHCF-WHWC are using carbon replacements. These are for drinking water mainly. You can also select a sediment Fifty Micron Core Wound Filter, which would get your post carbon filter to last longer.

(1) 5 Micron Sediment Water Filters
(2) 10 Micron Carbon Block Water Filters
(1) Reverse Osmosis Membrane
(1) 10 inch Inline GAC Water Filter

On other outlets the membrane was not included, as they claim it should only be replaced once every 4 years. This may be correct, if you replace the other GTS-550-USA filters as needed.

It’s possible you have been consuming regular city water all your lifespan, and you have never experienced any kind of sicknesses. Despite the fact that this may be the matter, why jeopardize the health and safety of your spouse and children? In sufficient amounts, chlorine is lethal, and the scientific community alerts on the hazards of continuous chlorine usage. Chlorine may be easily withdrawn by way of GTS 550 reverse osmosis.

Whether your water comes from the city or a private well, you can rely on the Whirlpool Water Filters available at many local Lowe’s outlets.

Many consumers, who are increasingly tired of the low quality of standard municipal tap water, have been trying to find new alternative sources for good, safe, purified drinking water. Technologies in the industry such as reverse osmosis RO and membrane filtration have become more and more common, since many people are now using products such as whirlpool and related water filters to improve the quality of their drinking water.

Water Filters

Drinking water filters are available in a number of different forms, including GAC granular activated carbons water filters, micro porous ceramic filters, metallic alloy filters, and ultra-filtration RO membranes. Whirlpool water filters generally work by forcing water through the filter, thus they’re separating certain types of microorganisms and contaminants from the treated water. Larger filtration units also come in a huge number of varieties, including two, three, four, five and six stage water filters.

Whirlpool Water Filters

Whirlpool which is one of the USA leading providers of under sink water filters, produces a number of under-the-sink residential water filtration systems. Models such as the WHED10 provide two stage drinking water filtration, and are capable of providing large homes with good, fresh, purified drinking water on a daily basis. Both the WHED10 and the WHED20 whirlpool water filters feature easy under-the-sink installation, decorative faucet attachments, and feature Whirlpool brand filters with a six month life.

The WHED20 water filter model comes with some enhanced features, including a water filter indicator light which would inform users when to replace the cartridges. Drinking water products generally require low and little maintenance, although the filters need to be changed on a regular basis. Whirlpool Water Filters can be found online too. Whirlpool provides a line of replacement water filters and cartridges that would make replacements fast and relatively inexpensive.

Whirlpool water filters come with a reputation for making long-lasting, high quality products. Whirlpool water filters are amongst the commonly available drinking water filters, making replacement cartridges easy to locate.

While consumers enjoyed the Matrikx 10-250-190-975 for a long time, these filters have been discontinued since the beginning of this year ’10. Major suppliers and distributors have gone through their inventory and it’s currently virtually almost impossible to get any more.

The +10/2 Cartridge with the 10- prefix, has been discontinued. The 32- CT cartridges are it’s Kx recommended replacement.

All MATRIKX Extruded Carbon Filters use FDA compliant materials in it’s manufacturing process. Some of the specific models are designed to meet the Standards 42 and 53 of NSF and/or ANSI . The Kx tech extruded carbon filter elements may be used in potable water applications, as well as for commercial, industrial, and food service applications.

Furthermore, KX filters prefix numbers may have been changed as follows.

The +CTO/2 Cartridge with the 32- prefix, has changed to CT.
CT-250-125-975, CT-250-125-20, CT-425-125-975, CT-425-125-20

The +Pb 1 Cartridge with the 06- prefix, has changed to PB.

The +CR1 Cartridge with the 19- prefix, has changed to CR.

The +1 Cartridge with the 01- prefix, has changed to CP.

The +5 Cartridge with the 02- prefix, has changed to VC.

The Plex Cartridge with the P10- prefix, has been discontinued.

The KX filters are manufactured as continuous lengths of tube which use a proprietary solid extrusion process. Extremely uniform and highly porous are the resulting products, providing high performance particulate reduction and adsorption at low flow resistance. Other standard filters may be manufactured by continuous solid state extrusion cost which is approximately the same as conventional filters manufactured, using loose GAC (granular activated carbon), but they would provide an enormous spectrum advantages in regards to performance .

KX carbon filters meet requirements for performance, and some models are registered to meet NSF/ANSI requirements for reduction of VOCs, THMs, cyst, turbidity, particulate, lead, chlorine taste and odor reduction, among others.

How much would you charge for GE Model: FXWSC Sediment Water Filters or a replacement for that if you have that? I would like a large quantity… Case?

Thanks for contacting us.

I’m not sure, but assume that any standard sediment filter would fit as a replacement for the General Electric GE FXWSC Filter.

(approx. dimension: 2.5” [2-3/4"] x 10” [9-7/8''... 9-3/4"]).

You may try the CBC-10 or the CC-10.

Note: the GE FXWSC is continued by GE and they didn’t provide an option for replacement.
FXWSC was a string-wound water filter.

A similar sediment (not carbon) filter would be the CW-MF. Or try the P5 water filter.

Hope this helps.

The reason I contacted you to ask what kind of filter will filter out nitrates is because you advertise the sale of water filters.

Are you saying that a local water technicians knows your product line better than you? I simply want to know if you sell a filter other than a reverse osmosis system that filters out Nitrates. If so, what is it?
Is there more than one that you sell?
What are the specs on what the filter(s) does?
I am solely interested in filtering out the nitrates.

The rest of the water analysis is not necessary to answer. I have 10.9MCL Nitrates and EPA says 10 MCL is okay.

Hi again,
There’s a Nitrates in Drinking Water removal filter cartridge from CuZn Water Filters that is available online.

However, without the details, we can’t be sure this is the solution for a Whole-House unit.

The complete Nitrates in Water whole house system is available too.
